The department is responsible for:
- Regulatory, approval and supervision tasks in the rail sector in relation to the safety of urban railways (infrastructure managers, operators, railway companies, operating and traffic regulations, rolling stock and infrastructure).
- Regulatory, approval and supervision tasks in the rail sector in relation to conventional railways (infrastructure managers, operators, railway undertakings, operating and traffic regulations, rollingstock and infrastructure).
